Special Education
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) requires
states to adopt rules in support of the federal statutes and regulations. In order
to assure compliance with the federal law, the Office for Exceptional Children (OEC)
is proposing changes to the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children
with Disabilities. The draft proposed rules incorporate the federal regulations
and include items specific to Ohio.
OEC conducted five regional presentations to review the proposed changes to the
Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities. An overview
of changes to the rules was presented and public comments were accepted during the
regional presentations.
The approved Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities
was effective July 1, 2008.
